District Court
Also known as: Окружной суд (בית המשפט המחוזי) · בית המשפט המחוזי
Middle instance of the Israeli general courts; hears larger civil matters and serious criminal cases.
The District Court occupies the middle tier of the Israeli judicial hierarchy — between the Magistrate Court and the Supreme Court. It hears larger civil claims, appeals from Magistrate Court rulings, serious criminal offences, and inheritance matters. Until recently the District Court was the authority for issuing apostilles on notarised documents, but this function has moved to the Magistrate Court. Sources that still mention the District Court for apostille may be outdated.
