Israeli notary services for Israelis living in Spain
You don't need to fly back to Israel. I retrieve your Israeli documents from the Israeli authorities (Ministry of Interior, civil registry, courts), legalise them with apostille and notarial certification, and forward them by registered mail or international courier to your address in Spain.
Common requests
- Israeli birth certificate, apostilled, for empadronamiento (padron) at the local ayuntamiento, a prerequisite for NIE/TIE.
- Israeli marriage certificate, apostilled (after Ministry of Religious Affairs ishur), for Spanish civil registry (Registro Civil) and family-reunification visas.
- Power of attorney for a Spanish lawyer to obtain your NIE and complete a property purchase without you flying to Spain. I draft and apostille on the Israeli side; the Spanish notary executing the deed accepts this chain.
- Israeli police clearance (te-udat yosher), apostilled, for non-lucrative visa, digital nomad visa, and residency renewals.
- Residual Sephardic citizenship files (filed before 1-Oct-2019, ~17,000 still in queue): supporting affidavits, genealogy declarations, notarised identity confirmations from Israel.
- Israeli academic credentials, apostilled, for homologacion (degree recognition) via Ministerio de Universidades.
- Israeli single-status affidavit plus tamtzit rishum, apostilled, for marriage at the Spanish Registro Civil.
- Israeli probate order (tzav yerusha), apostilled, for the Spanish notary executing succession on Spanish-situated assets when an heir is Israeli.

Banking and source-of-funds notes for Spain
Compliance asks for apostilled Israeli supporting documents on transfers above EUR 10,000 and on residency-linked accounts: passport copy, property-sale contract, tax certificate, inheritance order. I prepare and apostille the Israeli side; the Spanish sworn translation is added in Spain.
03 / 12 · Apostille specifics
Apostille specifics for Spain
Both Israel and Spain are Hague Apostille parties. CRITICAL: the apostille alone is not enough for most Spanish authorities. Spain requires translation by a Traductor-Interprete Jurado on the MAEC (Spanish foreign ministry) official list. Israeli notarial translations are routinely rejected by Registro Civil, ayuntamientos, courts, and Spanish notaries. The right path: apostille in Israel, then engage a MAEC-listed traductor jurado in Spain.

06 / 12 · Apostille route
Israeli documents apostille for Spain
Spain is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an Israeli apostille is the standard route. State-issued Israeli documents (certificates, diplomas) receive an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Israeli notarised documents (notarised translations, powers of attorney, certified copies, affidavits) receive a court apostille on the notarial certificate at the Magistrate Court.
07 / 12 · Translation
When is notarised translation needed for Spain?
Spanish receiving authorities usually require a Spanish translation. Some accept a notarized translation prepared in Israel; others require a sworn translator (traductor jurado) inside Spain. The requirement is confirmed before any translation is ordered.
For background on how Israeli notarised translation works under Notaries Law 1976, see the notarised translation service page.

12 / 12 · Questions
Frequently asked questions
- Do Israeli documents need apostille for Spain?
- Yes. Spain is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. Israeli state-issued documents receive an MFA apostille; Israeli notarized documents (translations, powers of attorney, certified copies, affidavits) receive a court apostille on the notarial certificate.
- Do I need a Spanish translation?
- Usually yes. Some receiving authorities accept a notarized translation prepared in Israel; others require a sworn translator (traductor jurado) inside Spain. The requirement is confirmed before any translation is ordered.
- Can I prepare a power of attorney for Spain from Israel?
- Yes. The power of attorney is drafted, notarized, translated when required, and apostilled at the Magistrate Court. The Spanish receiving party should provide the wording or template they expect.
- Can the documents be prepared remotely?
- Drafting, review, and translation, yes. The notarial signature must be in person at the office. I handle apostille and courier after that.
- How much does a notary service cost in Israel?
- Notary fees in Israel are set by the Ministry of Justice and updated every January. Translation, apostille (41 NIS per certificate in 2026), and courier are extra. I quote the final fee after I see the document.
- I had my Israeli birth certificate apostilled and translated by an Israeli notary. The Madrid ayuntamiento rejected it. Why?
- Spanish authorities accept the Israeli apostille on the original, but the Spanish translation must be done by a Traductor-Interprete Jurado registered with the MAEC. Israeli notary translations are not on that list. Order a sworn translation from a MAEC-listed translator in Spain.
- My Sephardic citizenship application from 2019 is still pending. Can I still complete it?
- Yes if you filed the preliminary application before 1-Oct-2019. Residual cases (~17,000) are still being adjudicated. Most evidence requests can be satisfied with apostilled Israeli notarial declarations plus traductor jurado translations.
- I want to buy an apartment in Valencia without flying to Spain. Can I sign a power of attorney in front of an Israeli notary?
- Yes. I draft the POA in Hebrew or bilingual Hebrew/Spanish, you sign in front of an Israeli notary, I apostille at the MFA, and your Spanish lawyer arranges the traductor jurado translation. The Spanish notary executing the deed accepts this chain.
- Does Spain accept Israeli marriage certificates from the Rabbinate directly?
- Not directly. The certificate must first be authenticated by the Israeli Ministry of Religious Affairs, then apostilled by the MFA. The Spanish Registro Civil then requires a traductor jurado translation of both the certificate and the apostille stamp.

“I retrieve, legalise, courier. You don't need to fly back to Israel.”
Receiving authorities set their own requirements. I prepare the notarial and apostille route based on the document, the destination country, and the stated purpose. Final acceptance is the receiving authority's call.
