Israeli Documents for Spain: Apostille, Notarized Translation, and Notary Support

Alla Flat · Notary #224143 · Bar #49324 · advocate since 2008

For an Israeli document going to Spain, first check whether it needs an MFA apostille or a court apostille and what translation the Spanish office will accept. Send me the document and its written request before you sign or order a translation. I prepare notarized translations, powers of attorney, and certified copies in Israel.

Israeli notary services for Israelis living in Spain

You don't need to fly back to Israel. I retrieve Israeli documents from the relevant authority, prepare the Israeli notarial work when needed, follow the authentication route confirmed for the document and destination, and forward the finished paperwork by registered mail or international courier to your address in Spain.

Common requests

  • Israeli birth certificate, apostilled, for empadronamiento (padron) at the local ayuntamiento, a prerequisite for NIE/TIE.
  • Israeli marriage certificate, apostilled (after Ministry of Religious Affairs ishur), for Spanish civil registry (Registro Civil) and family-reunification visas.
  • Power of attorney for a Spanish lawyer to obtain an NIE or handle a property matter. The Spanish lawyer or notary must approve the wording and signing route. If it is executed as an Israeli notarial act and an apostille is required, the notary signature is authenticated through the Israeli court route.
  • Israeli police clearance (te-udat yosher), apostilled, for non-lucrative visa, digital nomad visa, and residency renewals.
  • Residual Sephardic citizenship files (filed before 1-Oct-2019, ~17,000 still in queue): supporting affidavits, genealogy declarations, notarised identity confirmations from Israel.
  • Israeli academic credentials, apostilled, for homologacion (degree recognition) via Ministerio de Universidades.
  • Israeli single-status affidavit plus tamtzit rishum, apostilled, for marriage at the Spanish Registro Civil.
  • Israeli probate order (tzav yerusha), apostilled, for the Spanish notary executing succession on Spanish-situated assets when an heir is Israeli.

How it works

  1. Tell me what document you need, or send a photo of what you already have, on WhatsApp
  2. I tell you what the document needs, whether I must retrieve an original, and what my work will cost
  3. I retrieve the document from the Israeli authority or prepare the Israeli notarial act, then follow the authentication route required for that document and destination
  4. I forward the finished document by registered mail or international courier to your address in Spain
  5. You pay only after the document is in your hands. No advance fees.

Alla works directly in Russian, Hebrew and English, so no separate interpreter is needed at the meeting. Document translation depends on the receiving authority’s requirements.

Banking and source-of-funds notes for Spain

Compliance asks for apostilled Israeli supporting documents on transfers above EUR 10,000 and on residency-linked accounts: passport copy, property-sale contract, tax certificate, inheritance order. I prepare and apostille the Israeli side; the Spanish sworn translation is added in Spain.

Apostille specifics for Spain

Both Israel and Spain are Hague Apostille parties. An Israeli state document follows the Ministry of Foreign Affairs route. An Israeli notarial act, including a notarised power of attorney or translation, follows the court route. Before ordering a translation, ask the Spanish office whether it accepts the Israeli translation or requires a sworn translator registered in Spain.

06 / 13 · Who issues the apostille

Israeli documents apostille for Spain

Spain is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. State-issued Israeli documents, such as certificates and diplomas, receive an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Israeli notarised documents (notarised translations, powers of attorney, certified copies, affidavits) receive a court apostille on the notarial certificate at the Magistrate Court.

07 / 13 · Translation

When is notarised translation needed for Spain?

Spanish receiving authorities usually require a Spanish translation. Some accept a notarized translation prepared in Israel; others require a sworn translator (traductor jurado) inside Spain. The requirement is confirmed before any translation is ordered.

For background on how Israeli notarised translation works under Notaries Law 1976, see the notarised translation service page.

13 / 13 · Questions

Frequently asked questions

Q.01

Do Israeli documents need apostille for Spain?
Yes. Spain is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. Israeli state-issued documents receive an MFA apostille; Israeli notarized documents (translations, powers of attorney, certified copies, affidavits) receive a court apostille on the notarial certificate.

Q.02

Do I need a Spanish translation?
Usually yes. Some receiving authorities accept a notarized translation prepared in Israel; others require a sworn translator (traductor jurado) inside Spain. The requirement is confirmed before any translation is ordered.

Q.03

Can I prepare a power of attorney for Spain from Israel?
Yes. The power of attorney is drafted, notarized, translated when required, and apostilled at the Magistrate Court. The Spanish receiving party should provide the wording or template they expect.

Q.04

Can the documents be prepared remotely?
Drafting, review, and translation, yes. The notarial signature must be in person at the office. I handle apostille and courier after that.

Q.05

How much does a notary service cost in Israel?
Notary fees in Israel are set by the Ministry of Justice and updated every January. Translation, apostille (41 NIS per certificate in 2026), and courier are extra. I quote the final fee after I see the document.

Q.06

Which Spanish translation format should I order?
Ask the Spanish office where you will submit the document. A translation by a Traductor-Interprete Jurado registered with the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is one recognised route, but the exact requirement depends on the procedure. Do not order the translation until the receiving office confirms the format.

Q.07

My Sephardic citizenship application from 2019 is still pending. Can I still complete it?
Yes if you filed the preliminary application before 1-Oct-2019. Residual cases (~17,000) are still being adjudicated. Most evidence requests can be satisfied with apostilled Israeli notarial declarations plus traductor jurado translations.

Q.08

I want to buy an apartment in Valencia without flying to Spain. Can I sign a power of attorney in front of an Israeli notary?
Possibly, but the Spanish lawyer or notary handling the transaction must approve the wording, signing route, and translation first. If the power of attorney is executed as an Israeli notarial act and requires an apostille, the Israeli notary signature is authenticated through the Magistrate Court, not the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Q.09

Does Spain accept Israeli marriage certificates from the Rabbinate directly?
Not directly. The certificate must first be authenticated by the Israeli Ministry of Religious Affairs, then apostilled by the MFA. The Spanish Registro Civil then requires a traductor jurado translation of both the certificate and the apostille stamp.
I retrieve, legalise, courier. You don't need to fly back to Israel.

The court, bank, registry, university, or other office where you submit the document sets its own requirements. I prepare the Israeli notarial work and apostille based on the document, country, and purpose. That office makes the final decision.
