Israeli Documents for Belgium: Apostille, Notarized Translation, and Notary Support
Alla Flat · Notary #224143 · Bar #49324 · advocate since 2008
For an Israeli document going to Belgium, ask the Belgian municipality, court, university or other recipient for its document and translation requirements. Belgian FPS guidance distinguishes legalisation, apostille and exemptions. For use in Belgium, confirm the required national language, Dutch, French or German, and the accepted translator or certification before paying for a translation.

Israeli notary services for Israelis living in Belgium
Living in Belgium does not make every notarial step remote. Start by sending the Israeli document and the receiving office's request. Alla can assess document retrieval, authentication and delivery separately from any act requiring your personal signature. If you must sign before a notary, arrange the appropriate in-person signing route.
Common requests
- Israeli civil-status records requested for registration with a Belgian municipality
- A name-change record where the Israeli document and the Belgian file use different names
- Review of Israeli notarial work requested for a Belgian bank, court or property file
How it works
- Send the Israeli document and the receiving office's written request, including the intended use.
- Confirm the required original or copy, authentication, translation language and translator status before ordering.
- Confirm which steps can be handled while you are abroad and whether you must sign in person.
- Agree the work, fee and delivery method before preparation starts.
Alla works directly in Russian, Hebrew and English, so no separate interpreter is needed at the meeting. Document translation depends on the receiving authority’s requirements.

Common Israeli documents for Belgium
- Israeli birth certificate for a Belgian civil-status file
- Israeli marriage or divorce document requested by a municipality
- Israeli name-change record linking different names
- Israeli diploma and transcripts requested by an educational institution
- Israeli power of attorney for a specifically identified Belgian transaction
03 / 10 · Who issues the apostille
Israeli documents apostille for Belgium
Belgian FPS Foreign Affairs says the authentication route depends on the issuing country and document type; some documents are exempt. Where an Israeli public document needs an apostille under the Hague route, obtain it from the competent Israeli authority. For a required apostille on an Israeli notarial certificate, the court route applies. Legalisation or apostille does not guarantee acceptance: the Belgian body may still check the contents or ask for additional documents.
04 / 10 · Translation
When is notarised translation needed for Belgium?
Belgian FPS guidance says foreign-language documents for use in Belgium must be translated into a national language. Belgium has three: Dutch, French and German. Ask the particular municipality, court or other recipient which language it requires, whether it needs a sworn translator, and how any translation prepared abroad must be certified or authenticated. Do not assume that a French or Dutch translation, an English version, or Israeli notarisation alone meets every Belgian procedure.
For background on how Israeli notarised translation works under Notaries Law 1976, see the notarised translation service page.

07 / 10 · Avoid rejection
Common mistakes that cause rejection
- Choosing French or Dutch without checking whether the recipient requires German or another accepted format
- Assuming a visa-file translation will also meet a municipality's civil-status requirements
- Treating apostille as a guarantee that the contents or translation will be accepted
- Ordering a translation before checking the required original, copy and certification

What to send on WhatsApp
Send a clear photo or scan, the destination country, and the name of the court, bank, university, immigration office, or registry that asked for it. Hebrew is fine. I will tell you what must be done in Israel before you sign, translate, or order an apostille.

Frequently asked questions
- Do Israeli documents need apostille for Belgium?
- Not in every case. Belgian FPS Foreign Affairs says the route depends on the country of issue and the document type, and exemptions can apply. Check the Belgian recipient's request and the applicable route before obtaining an Israeli apostille.
- Which translation language and certification does Belgium require?
- Check with the Belgian recipient before ordering. The national languages are Dutch, French and German. The required language, translator status and authentication of a translation depend on the procedure; an Israeli notarised translation is not automatically accepted for every Belgian use.
- Does legalisation guarantee that a Belgian authority accepts my document?
- No. Belgian FPS guidance expressly separates authentication from acceptance. The receiving body can still check the contents, request supporting documents or verify the record in the issuing country.
- Can I prepare a power of attorney for Belgium from Israel?
- Alla can assess the Israeli notarial route once you provide the Belgian recipient's required wording and intended transaction. Confirm the powers, translation and certification it accepts before signing. If an apostille is required for the Israeli notarial certificate and no exemption applies, the Israeli court route is a separate step; it does not guarantee acceptance in Belgium.
- Can the documents be prepared remotely?
- Document review and drafting can start remotely. Whether document retrieval, authentication and delivery can proceed while you are abroad depends on the document and the authority involved. If your signature must be witnessed by a notary, you must appear in person; a video call or a scan does not replace that act. Confirm the signing route before ordering.
- How much does a notary service cost in Israel?
- Notary fees in Israel are set by the Ministry of Justice and updated every January. Translation, apostille (41 NIS per certificate in 2026), and courier are extra. I quote the final fee after I see the document.

“Confirm the receiving office's requirements before you sign, translate or order authentication.”
The court, bank, registry, university, or other office where you submit the document sets its own requirements. I prepare the Israeli notarial work and apostille based on the document, country, and purpose. That office makes the final decision.
